Job Details:
Summary of Duties: Responsible for all general medical office duties; scheduling patient appointments and providing professional customer service; obtaining demographic information and insurance information; checking-in and checking-out patients; handling incoming phone calls.
Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR, EHR) systems a plus. Specifically, e-MDs.
Knowledge of business office procedures.
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and computer experience.
Medical terminology.
Minimum one-year work experience in customer service in a medical office environment.
Must be organized and detail-oriented.
Environment/Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times due to a busy office. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
Physical Demands: Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation. There may be excessive standing while working at the check in counter. May be occasional lifting of supplies up to 20 lbs.
Job Requirements:
Essential Responsibilities:
Follow opening and closing procedures according to office guidelines.
Greet patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner and provide any necessary services, instructions or directions. Informs nursing staff of patient arrivals.
Open new accounts by collecting registration data from new patients and making new patient charts.
Obtain and enter new patient demographics; update patient information, as necessary, in the computer system to maintain accuracy for billing.
Obtain and verify patient insurance information (coverage and deductable) by contacting insurance companies.
Enter patient charges and CPT/ICD-9 codes into computer system.
Collect all co-pays, payments and balances, as required by office policies. Understand and enter payment to patient balances in computer system.
Prepare day sheets at closing showing the day’s total receipts; matches the day’s transactions and completes deposit slips.
Review all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting.
Check in arriving patients and check out departing patients;
Apply billing codes accurately at check out.
Schedule return appointments at check out.
Set and confirm patient appointment schedules.
Answer phone and compose and distribute messages; Collect and distribute incoming faxes, emails; Open and distribute mail; Prepare and send outgoing mail, faxes, emails.
File notes, lab, etc. into charts; Make and send copies of charts;
Make referral appointments; Obtain prior authorization for referrals and tests;
Responsible for professional atmosphere to include appropriate attire and neat, well organized working area.
Other Job Responsibilities:
Maintain clean and orderly waiting area including reading material.
Transcribe dictated notes and letters.
Maintain equipment.
Performs daily backups on office computer system.
Participates in educational activities and attends routine staff meetings.
Conducts self in accordance with RFH’s Employee Manual.
Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with all staff and physicians.
Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Accepts other duties as assigned.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
